The California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) provides a License Search Tool that is updated daily. This tool is a valuable resource for verifying the legitimacy of cannabis businesses and finding licensed retailers near you. Here’s how the tool can be used:
License Search Tool Functions:
- Verify a Cannabis Business: Check if a business is licensed and legally operating in the cannabis industry.
- Find a Retailer: Locate cannabis retailers in your area that hold valid licenses.
- Search for Licensed Cannabis Businesses: Explore businesses that are authorized to perform various cannabis-related activities.
- File a Complaint: Report concerns or complaints about a cannabis business through the platform.
You can access the License Search Tool through theDCC website.
Understanding License Statuses:
The tool provides information on the status of a cannabis business license. Here’s what each status means:
- Active: The business has an active license, allowing them to engage in the licensed commercial cannabis activities at the location listed.
- About to Expire: The license is within 60 calendar days of expiration, but the business remains active during this period.
- Expired – Pending Renewal: The license has expired but is within the 30-day grace period, during which it can still be renewed with an added late fee. The business cannot engage in cannabis activities during this time.
Non-Active License Statuses:
Businesses with the following statuses cannot perform any commercial cannabis activities:
- Expired: The license has expired due to non-renewal and is no longer valid.
- Not in Operation: The license is temporarily inactive, often due to a disaster relief designation.
- Revoked: The license has been terminated due to regulatory actions and is no longer valid.
- Surrendered: The business has voluntarily given up its license, ending its legal status.
- Suspended: The license is temporarily inactive due to disciplinary actions, either for a defined or indefinite period.
